The Next American Revolution:
A New Social Contract for the 21st Century

Book Description- The Next American Revolution proposes a new social contract centered on working people and a worldwide middle class. Jim Davis connects reforms in wages, taxation, healthcare, debt, housing, democracy, and peace into a unified agenda for economic security, shared prosperity, and organized citizen action.

Key Facts about the New Book-

Key Points

The book argues that lasting prosperity requires structural reforms that work together rather than isolated policy changes. Its proposals include living wages and stronger worker protections, partial employee ownership of large corporations, simplified income taxes and a graduated wealth tax, limits on corporate concentration and predatory lending, an optional comprehensive public healthcare system, student debt relief, and stronger Social Security funding. It also advocates housing security, poverty reduction at home and abroad, transparent consumer labeling, balanced federal budgets and debt retirement, and broader candidate access to voters. Throughout, Davis calls for redirecting resources from exploitation and war toward community investment, human dignity, and shared economic opportunity.

The “Essential Core Proposals” have something of interest to most people:

These Essential Core Proposals offer something of interest to most people: a $23.80 minimum wage intended to reduce poverty and reliance on welfare; a simple, graduated flat-rate income tax without deductions or loopholes; protection against income-tax increases for middle-class households earning under $250,000; an optional comprehensive healthcare plan with no deductibles and limited co-payments; mortgage and revolving-credit rate caps of 3.99% and 4.99%; limits on conglomerates, including media concentration; and a plan to balance the federal budget and retire the national debt. Together with employee profit-sharing, student debt relief, and housing security, these reforms aim to put more money, time, and opportunity into ordinary people’s lives.

What This Social Contract Achieves

As a species of people, let us remake ourselves into a people with money in our pockets, time on our hands, peace in our hearts and prosperity in our countries. Here is what this proposal package achieves:

· This package raises an estimated $2.0 trillion to $2.2 trillion in annual positive revenue through a no-loophole graduated flat income tax and a wealth tax on the richest Americans. After market effects, the plan is expected to result in at least $1.6 trillion to $1.9 trillion in new revenue.

· Balances the federal budget in the first year and begins paying down the national debt, with a goal of retiring it in 16 years.

· Requires no new taxes on working-class or middle-class households: households under $250,000 remain protected at their 2019 baseline levels.

· Raises the minimum wage to $23.80 per hour, putting money into workers’ pockets, giving everyone a living wage, and moving millions of people off welfare.

· Reduces the taxpayer cost of welfare by moving working people above eligibility, with earlier estimates showing about $142 billion per year in combined SNAP savings, housing-assistance savings, and added payroll and income-tax receipts.

· Through a worker-owner partnership, it gives workers a 25% share of large-corporation prosperity. Money in the pockets of local workers. Money they may spend back into the community.

· Caps mortgage rates at 3.99% and revolving credit at 4.99%, with additional consumer protections that keep debt from becoming a permanent trap.

· Creates a voluntary full-coverage universal healthcare system with a 5% employee payroll cap, $50 office visits, a $1,000 annual out-of-pocket cap, and a $10,000 lifetime maximum. It has full coverage including dental, vision, and hearing.

· Ends poverty as a permanent class by funding a national poverty-eradication system built around standard housing, nutrition, job placement, supportive care, and a $215 billion first-year appropriation.

· Builds a worldwide middle class by using U.S. market access to lift workers worldwide through a certification system requiring three-times the poverty level at home and an equivalent living wage abroad. This focuses the world on the labor dollar assuring the U.S. of retaining the US dollar as the world currency.

· Redirects military resources away from permanent war and toward territorial defense, disaster response, infrastructure, medical logistics, and humanitarian security.

· Expands candidate access to voters through ranked voting and a nationwide Sunday debate and airtime program during election season, funded by a 10% surcharge on FCC licenses.

· It secures Social Security for the next 75 Years through removing the Social Security ceiling so high-income earners will also pay the 6.2 percent employee payroll tax.

· Major recurring revenue in the wealth-tax model of $1.6 trillion/year to recoup past losses and make a debt free future for Americans.

· Student Debt Resolution taking care of a 1.7 trillion dollars drag on the economy.

· It eliminates most renter evictions through a Renter Security Fund to cover renters who lose their job, become ill or hospitalized, and during bereavement.

· Provides for poverty eradication and housing appropriation at home and a global human survival floor for basic needs both at home and abroad. Community Investment and Social Infrastructure Fund that covers domestic public priorities including pre-K, childcare, school meals, rural broadband, elder care, free trade schools, and apprenticeships, and restores emergency services...and More.
